Description

The Catrín mask is worn by indigenous peoples during the Carnival season, the week around Ash Wednesday, during which time the social tables are turned!
The villagers can then mock their wealthy landlords by impersonating them with these wooden caricatures and posh vestments, all worn for satiric ceremonial dances.
Purchased directly from a woodcarver of Tlaxcala, Mexico. The details are crafted from soft ayacahuite wood, a pine distinct to the highland state. Metal safety pin on back.
1-1/2″ wide x 2″ tall.
Feathered Serpent Imports offers colorful Mexican folk art and ritual supplies.
Many are bought directly from indigenous artists to promote fair trade. Unique, handmade pieces represent Mexico’s rich cultural diversity.
